Why do you want an MBA degree?

Popular Reasons:

·       To develop new Skills.
·       To move up the Ranks.
·       To help initiate a Career Change.
·       To specialize in a Specific Area.
·       To gain Business Knowledge.
·       To Earn Big.
·       To hold an Edge, a leg up, an Advantage in the highly competitive marketplace.

Reflections:

·       Are you satisfied with your current job?
·       Are you working at a level you want to maintain?
·       Do you foresee an ability to grow with your employer?
·       Is doing a CGA or a CMA, both management degrees, better than doing an MBA as they are more specific?
·       Do you still need an MBA degree if the above reflection questions are answered in the affirmative?

Reasoning:

An MBA is best suited for:

·       Goal-oriented people, who have come from academic backgrounds wanting to shift to the business field.
·       People who have worked for few years in a specific field and have built a history and credentials for themselves.
·       People who want to apply what they have learned in the classroom, sharpening and honing the skill they have.

An MBA is not suited for:

·       A person ignorant of the workplace
·       A person who has not seen a manager at work; his skill requirements and his humanness.
·       A person who runs with the crowd, who has no vision, who has no understanding of his goals-what he brings to the table, where he lacks and where he wants to be.

Conclusion:

·       To know if you really want an MBA:
·       Understand yourself. Sit in on some MBA information sessions.
·       Start to meet people from different schools and learn what they have on offer.
·       Judge whether the research you did suits your temperament and your goals.
