How many questions should you crack accurately to get 95+ percentile

Before assuming how many questions need to be answered to get 95+ percentile, you must understand the pattern of the paper. The CAT exam paper consists of total 60 questions, 30 in each section. According to industry experts, a successful attempt of 45 questions in total can get you your desired percentile. That means if you attempt anywhere between 20 to 23 questions in each section (Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning), you will be able to get the desired percentile of 95 and above.

Echoing experts’ opinion, Vinayak Kudva, Product Head, IMS Learning tells media, “An attempt of around 20 to 25 questions with 85 per cent accuracy should get you a 95+ percentile in each of the sections.”

However, what is important that while you keep the number in your mind you must answer these questions accurately. You will lose marks with every wrong question. As per CAT marking scheme, you will get three marks for every correct answer and one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Be warned that you select the right questions where you will not make any mistakes or are sure to attempt them correctly. Otherwise you will lose your marks due to negative marking.
