Shortlisting criteria of 13 IIMs

Cracking CAT exam is only a preliminary stage of MBA admission process. It does not promise a sure shot call from IIMs. In order to ensure your call from one of the IIMs your qualities and application should meet the criteria of particular B-schools. With the increasing competition, IIMs have become choosy about the quality of students taking admission. The IIMs have issued weightage criteria for 2012-13. Thus your work experience, gender and bachelor degree, all will contribute to your application. Let us know the shortlisting criteria of different IIMs for 2012-13:

IIM Ahmedabad:
70% weightage is given to the CAT/GMAT score and 30% weightage is given to the Application Rating Score. The final selection and ranking of students will be based on ones CAT/GMAT score, performance in personal interview, academic performance and achievements, extra-curricular activities, and post-degree work experience.

IIM Bangalore:

IIM-B focuses on academics of students because of which candidates with 90 percentile or above are called for GD/PI. The selection process arrived at is based on the relationship of academic performance in IIMB to past academic performance, CAT score, performance in interview and prior work experience. IIMB uses multiple parameters, namely academic performance in school, high school and graduation programs as well as candidates’ scores in CAT to judge the suitability of candidates for the PGP program. The weightage given to CAT score, Class X, XII and graduation marks are: CAT = 20, 10th board=15, 12th board=10, Bachelors= 15.


IIM Calcutta:
IIM-C will admit students with above 99.55 percentile in CAT. Institute gives weightage to Class X and XII board marks. This year it has decided to give points to female candidates who fulfill the CAT percentile. The initiative has been taken to improve the gender diversity on campus.


IIM Lucknow:
IIM-L accepts candidates with overall CAT score of 90 percentile and sectional cut off of 85 percentile. The weightage assigned by the institute to CAT score, Class X, XII and graduation marks are as follows: CAT=38; Class X=1; Class XII=1; Graduation= 3.

It also gives weightage to work experience and gender factor (for girls). Candidates from non-engineering background score 3 extra marks.

IIM Indore:
Candidates with overall 90 percentile in CAT can expect a call from IIM Indore. A composite score using other factors such as Class X, XII and Graduation marks, professional diversity among others will be calculated. Section 1 (Quantitative ability and DI) will carry a weightage of 20%, Section 2(Verbal Ability & LR) – 30%. Class X, XII and graduation will carry weightage of 15% each while 5% will be given to non-engineering students.


IIM Kozhikode:
IIM Kozhikode will accept candidates with an overall CAT score of 85 percentile. The institute will assign 50% weightage to overall CAT score, 20 percent weight for academic performance in secondary school, 20 percent weight for higher secondary school, and 10 percent to graduation.

The academic performance of secondary school as well as higher secondary school is taken as the percentage of marks reported by the candidates and will be standardised (also across various HSC disciplines like arts and humanities, commerce, science and others) across the boards using the data available with IIMK for five years including the current year.

The short listed candidates at this stage are once again required to register online for the second stage of IIMK online registration process with some more information and complete the personal profile form online.

IIM Shillong:
IIM Shillong will call students with overall CAT score of 94.5 percentile. The candidates must have scored 80% in Class X and 75% in Class XII in order to get shortlisted. No grace marks are given to female candidates and non-engineers.


IIM Ranchi:
Candidates with overall CAT score of 97 percentile can expect a call from IIM Ranchi. Final admissions will be based on composite score of CAT (40% weisghtage), GD/PI (40%) and Profile (20%). Profile will include academic profile, work experience and extracurricular activities.

IIM Rohtak:
The institute will accept student with overall cut off score of 85 percentile. To qualify candidates must have a minimum score of 70%, 65% and 60% in Class X, XII and graduation respectively. The institute will also give weightage to factors such as female students (20 marks), non-engineers (20 marks) and work experience (50 marks).

IIM Raipur:
To qualify for IIM Raipur, candidates must have secured overall 80 percentile inCAT. Final admission will be based on Personal Appearance scores, CAT scores and profile of the student. Under profile 10 marks will be allotted to each Class X and XII board scores and 20 marks to graduation.


IIM Trichy:

Institute will accept candidates with overall cut off of 80 percentile. To qualify candidates must have scored 70, 65 and 60 percent in their Class X, XII and graduation respectively. Work experience will carry a weightage of 5% while 5% marks will be given to female students.

IIM Kashipur:

Candidates with overall CAT score of 75 percentile and sectional cut off of 70 percentile are eligible. CAT score will carry weightage of 38. Institute will give weightage of 1 mark to Class X and XII each. 3 marks will be allotted to graduation score and diverse academic background. 2 marks will be given to gender diversity and work experience each.

IIM Udaipur:

Candidates with overall 80 percentile in CAT can apply for IIM Udaipur. Final admissions will be based on CAT scores, profile and PA scores. Under profile 10 marks will be given to Class X, XII and 20 marks to graduation scores. Weightage will be given to female candidates, work experience and academic diversity for preparing the final list.
