New IIMs to join hands to get more recruiters and better placement

New IIMs to join hands to get more recruiters and better placement

The new Institutes of Management are planning to come together to handle the competition from older IIMs. The new IIMs said that they are thinking to synchronise their placements on similar pattern to what IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta used to do.

Godwin Tennyson, placement chairperson at IIM Tiruchirappalli, said, "The older IIMs synchronise their placements. Similarly, the newer IIMs can co-ordinate the placement process so that there is no job loss and the whole process is transparent. We will be exploring this option."

The numbers of IIMs have gone almost double in last two years from seven to 13 now. Besides, the major companies which these B-Schools persuaded for placement remain same. Therefore, the new IIMs are making new strategies and plans to get more companies to recruit students from their campuses.

The new IIMs ask recruiters to hire almost 75% of students as per their work requirement from older IIMs and 25% from newer IIMs as their batch sizes are comparatively less.

IIM Ranchi, placement committee member said, "The pool of the big recruiters remains the same. And, with most of them having been recruiting from the older IIMs, there is a loyalty factor. This makes it imperative for the new IIMs to come together to beat competition from other B-schools."

Sanjeev Pasashar, chairman, placements at IIM Raipur, said, "All the IIMs should work as part of a consortium as far as placements are concerned. There should not be any competition within the new IIMs. Our students are already in touch with students from other IIMs so that competition does not become unhealthy."
To attract maximum number of recruiters for placements the new IIMs are trying to keep their placement dates around the same time as older IIMs.
