IIM-Bangalore Selection Criteria 2012 announced


The prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore has announced its selection criterion for 2012-14 batch. This year, the institute will give weightage to several parameters such as CAT 2011 score, performance in class X, XII and relevant work experience. Student’s performance in Personal Interview rounds would also be given weightage.

There will be two rounds of admission. The first will shortlist candidates on the basis of their score in CAT 2011. Those who qualify this round will be called for Personal Interview round. In this round, the student will be asked to write a short note (one page long) on any topic given by the institute. The topics include current affairs, political or an economic issue, sports and business affairs, etc. The student will be asked to complete his essay in 30 minutes. In this stage a candidate’s work experience would be evaluated. Once a candidate clears this round then he will be called for Personal Interview Round.

Those students who secure the required percentile, his percentage scores in the 10th and 12th board exams are initially adjusted by dividing each such score by the 90th percentile score obtained in that board. The database of 10th and 12th scores of all CAT applicants of the past two years is used for identifying the 90th percentile score for each 10th and 12th board for this purpose. Then marks scored in graduation are considered. In this first round of short listing, candidates with Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting, and Company Secretary certifications are eligible for weight under professional course. No other professional course is eligible for weight under professional course.

Those who get the desired results are called for second round which comprises of Note Writing and Personal Interview. Interviewers will mark students on Note Content, Note Style and Personal Interview.
The work experience score will be multiplied by the quality of experience score, as evaluated by the interviewing panel. The quality of work experience score will be evaluated on a 5 point scale (0 – 0.5 – 1 – 1.5 – 2) by each member of the panel during the interviews. The average quality of work experience score will be multiplied by the pre-PI work experience score and accordingly the work/professional experience component score (maximum score 5) used in Phase 1 will be revised in Phase 2 (maximum score 10).
